What Is The Difference Between iBeacon and Eddystone?

iBeacon is a feature that comes with Apple's mobile device iOS. The way it works is that devices equipped with Bluetooth communication use BLE technology to send their own unique ID to their surroundings.The application that receives that ID takes some action based on that ID.

Eddystone is an open source Bluetooth beacon platform from Google. Eddystone uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology for peer-to-peer communication.

SKYLAB Bluetooth beacons are supported in both iBeacon and Eddystone modes. It can meet the diverse needs of users' practical applications.

Users can flexibly select two different modes of beacons, iBeacon and Eddystone. iBeacon and Eddystone configuration parameters can be modified by SKYLAB according to the actual application requirements.

The modification of iBeacon and Eddystone mode configuration parameters are not the same. The following describes the differences of SKYLAB VG05 beacon configuration modification.

Differences of iBeacon and Eddystone configuration parameters

Introduction of VG05 configuration parameters in iBeacon mode

◆ MAC: chip MAC address

◆ name: The name of the selected Bluetooth 4.2 beacon.

◆ UUID: 128 -bit identifiers based on ISO/IEC11578: 1996 (32 -bit hexadecimal numbers)

◆ Major: Set 16-bit identifiers (0-65535)

◆ Minor: Set 16-bit identifier (0-65535)

◆ MeaSured Power: Measuring signal strength at 1 meter (VG05 transmit power 0 dbm)

◆ Transmit Power: VG05 transmitting power

◆ Advertise Interval: VG05 broadcast interval

◆ Battery Capacity: VG05 battery capacity

◆ Password: VG05 connection password

VG05 configuration parameters in Eddystone mode

◆ MAC: MAC address

◆ name: The name of the Bluetooth beacon, the configuration method is the same as the iBeacon mode.

◆ User Service Data: The user -defined data, the configuration method is the same as the iBeacon mode.

◆ Transmit Power: VG05 transmit power, the configuration method is the same as the iBeacon mode.

◆ Advertise Interval: VG05 broadcast interval, the configuration method is the same as the iBeacon mode.

◆ Battery Level: VG05 battery power

◆ Password: VG05 connection password, the configuration method is the same as the iBeacon mode.

◆ URL: Modify EddyStone field information.The default format is URL.

◆ Other Setting: Used to select other field information of Eddystone.

The difference between iBeacon and Eddystone configuration modification

(1) Configuration parameter modification of VG05 in iBeacon mode:

Users can modify parameters such as Bluetooth beacon name, UUID, User service data, Major, Minor, Measured Power, transmit power, broadcast interval, password, etc. in the APP.

（2)Modification of VG05's configuration parameters in Eddystone mode

Users can modify parameters such as URL, Other Setting (UID, EID, TLM) in the APP.
